I have worked in healthcare since 1997, and as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN / Psychiatric Nurse) since 2003. I have worked in a variety of settings, including: Dementia Care; Eating Disorders; Dual Diagnosis (substance use and mental health); and Severe and Enduring Mental Illness. For the past 6 years, I worked as a community psychiatric nurse within a community team specialising in psychosis, and more recently as Deputy Team Manager, before finally taking the plunge to leave regular employment to concentrate on my holistic therapy business.
It was working within the substance misuse field which introduced me to Auricular Acupuncture, training in 2004 to administer the 5x point detox protocol as part of my role as a mental health nurse, running a successful weekly acupuncture group for my clients for 12 years. This led to an increasing interest in Complementary Therapies and a general desire to treat more holistically, and I completed my First Degree Reiki in 2005.
I later trained in Reflexology at the Oxford School of Reflexology in Wheatley, which taught the Inge Dougans method, incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 Elements and their 12 Meridians with the practice of reflexology. I qualified in 2010, and am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists. I have also completed the Hopi Ear Candling Diploma, also in 2010.
A Holistic Therapist never stops learning! There is such a wealth of expertise out there, and it is fascinating to meet with other therapists and learn new techniques which may enhance the treatments I offer. Since qualifying as a Reflexologist, I have completed a course which allows me to teach Baby Reflex techniques to mums and dads, and grandparents, which they can then use to help keep their baby healthy and happy.
I have completed a course on Aromatherapy for the Feet which allows me to personalise a blend of essential oils to use as part of a reflexology treatment, and includes a lovely foot and lower leg massage. I have completed the Finger Free Reflexology training which uses knuckes and other areas of the hands, and even an elbow, to deliver reflexology techniques in a different way; and I regularly incorporate these techniques into my treatments. More recently, I completed a Hot Stone Reflexology course, which I am very excited to offer my clients. Incorporating hot stones into the treatment helps enhance both the feeling of relaxation that the client experiences, and allows the reflexes can be worked more deeply.
I completed my training in the Bowen Technique in 2016 and am excited to be able to offer this amazing therapy, whose gentle movements can have such powerful results in all areas of health, including muscular skeletal issues, pain relief, hormone imbalance, digestive disorders or stress. Please do take a look at the Bowen pages on my website to see how it may help you.
I am fully insured to offer Bowen, Reflexology, Hot Stone Reflexology, Aroma-Reflex, Baby Reflex, Hopi Ear Candling and Reiki treatments. Please note that as a complementary therapist, I do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. None of the above treatments should be used as a substitute for seeking professional advice with respect to any ailment.
Treatments are usually offered in my relaxing treatment room at my home, though treatments in your own home or workplace may be available.
